Minutes from Area 12D Manufacturing Committee Meeting and Division

November 5-6, 2002, Indianapolis, IN

Executive Officers for Area 12D are in urgent need. Stephanie Sullivan (Merck) volunteered to be the Activities Chair. Helen H. Lou will discuss with John Battler and draft a recruiting letter for distribution by John Corn.

• "Case Studies and Lessons Learned".
  Erdem Ural will be the chair. Henry Febo will be the co-chair.

• Area 12D will sponsor "Environmental Challenges in Manufacturing". John Corn (Ashland) volunteered as chair. Dennis C. Hendershot (Rohm and Haas) will be the co-chair.
• Through discussion with Dennis C. Hendershot and John Corn on Nov. 6th, Area 12D will co-sponsor two sessions with Area 11A - Loss Prevention and Process Safety, "Engineering Issues in Security of High Hazard Facilities", and "Case Studies and Lessons Learned".

• "Spend Capital or Toll it" (the content will be on efficient energy usage in manufacturing). Aaron Sarafinas (Rohm and Haas) volunteered to be the co-chair. He will identify the chair and they will fix the session title.
• Possible future titles if more sessions are needed for the topical:
• Information Technology Applications in Manufacturing
• Analytical Tools In Manufacturing
• Risk and Security Analysis Tools in Manufacturing

Current

• John Battler has contacted the chairs of three of the local sections in an effort to set up a minitopical of relevance to the plant engineer for the Spring 2004 meeting.

Future
• Helen H. Lou will contact Southeast Texas AIChE chapter for a local road show to promote Process Development Division and Area 12D. She will also promote paper submission for Fall 2003 through Southeast Texas AIChE chapter.
• Helen H. Lou will discuss with Stephanie Sullivan about future actions.
