There were two sessions at the annual meeting. "Challenges in the Pharmaceutical Industry in View of FDA Regulatory Issues" (a Process Analytical Technologies- PAT- session) was chaired by John Peragine and had 7 papers presented. This was followed by a panel discussion. Both the paper session and panel discussion averaged about 100 attendees. "Biopharmaceutical Separations" was co-chaired by Annette Johnston and had 7 papers presented.
There is one session scheduled for the 2004 Spring National meeting in New Orleans. "Barriers to effective technology transfer" will be chaired by Osman Aboul-Nasr. For the 2004 Annual meeting in Austin, as part of the Process Development "Tools" topical session, the tech transfer area will co-sponsor "Process Analytical Technologies (PAT) for Pharmaceutical and Biopharmaceutical Applications" (along with group 15b). John Peragine and Dr. Henry Wang (from the Univ. of Michigan) will co-chair this session. There were no sessions planned yet for the 2005 Spring meeting in Atlanta . For the 2005 Fall meeting in Cincinnati, "Pharmaceutical Process Development and Scale-up" will be co-sponsored with group 15b
The group brainstormed potential programming topics within the division and for the 2005 Spring and Fall meetings. The idea of having a collaboration topical session was proposed and discussed. If a chair or champion for this can be identified by the Spring 2004 meeting, then a collaboration session at either of the 2005 meetings may be possible.
