Purpose of this meeting: look at our direction, course correction

Present: Michael Hill (new to PD from Unilever), Osman, Helen Luo, John Corn, Ramesh, Cawas Cooper, Jack Vinson, George Lieberman, Prabir Basu, Lionel O'Young, Ka Ng, Cheryl Teich, Annette Johnston, John Peragine, Yinlun Huang, David Edwards

• John & Christine to work together to figure out what is happening with our secretary.
• Cawas: Check with Christine to make sure we gave Scott a pat on the back. Copy John Sofranko of AIChE.
• Prabir is interested in doing something with Distance Learning (maybe).
• Cawas has volunteered to help develop a student-centric activity. Help our division interface between Industry and University. Prabir will help.
• Dave Edwards is responsible for a web-based forum. Set up for Pilot Plants (as a pilot).
• John Peragine to confirm who is going to NPC (Ray Rooks, Christine Seymour). Or John will go himself?
• Michael Hill has decided to pick up as Chair of the by-laws committee.
• Ramesh will join the by-laws committee.
• John Peragine & Christine Seymour to define officer duties and responsibilities within the division.

We don't have a secretary, do we need it?
AI: John & Christine to work together to figure out what is happening there.

Do we want to put resumes on the website? (probably not, since it isn't clear what benefit there would be)
Web committee is responsible for these kinds of things

• work is going very well
• 5 main sections
• $1200 all inclusive food, lodging, registration, goodie bag

• future: do we want to go independent of AIChE in the future?
• what size do we want (65 last time, Annette is aiming for 120 next time)

• Christine Seymour is the new chairperson
• John Peragine is chair-elect
• Ramesh is treasurer again
• area chairs? Need to set up new chairs at area meetings on Tuesday / Weds
• 12d. John Battler is out of our division, and Helen Lou is now helping out.

• making presentations to local sections about the Division
• Osman is doing this for the Carolina section in January

• about 100 members
• starting programming
• fit with PD?

• Susan Edwards of Abbott is doing the work
• was submitted for AIChE's Outstanding Newsletter!

• momentum has slacked off. No academic nomination. One nomination for industrial. We are skipping awards this annual meeting.
• Pharmacia was sponsoring an award, but Pfizer will probably not. Unless we get someone involved.
• Glen Wheeler is willing to continue. Need to get more publicity.

• CAST is doing WebCAST - they've done four of them, very nicely.
• Do we have ideas of what to do?
• AI: Prabir is interested in doing something with this?
• Rich Faloozi has done some courses as well.

• the last time we did this, it was very successful
• AI: Cawas has volunteered to help develop a student-centric activity. Help our division interface between Industry and University.

• idea: All day session on Sunday: How does PD work?
• Kansas State is developing a program
• Purdue is developing a API mfg facility on campus.

• Set up a web-based forum for PD or for Pilot Plants
• concern that only pilot plants would be small
• could start small and move forward
• start with eng-tips forum.
• get it setup and launch it at the PD Symposium
• AI: Dave Edwards is responsible for this. Set up for Pilot Plants (as a pilot).

• what balance between Symposium and AIChE sessions?
• Dave would think about chairing a Pilot Plant specific PD Symposium for 2005 / 2006.

• AIChE rumored to want to bring finances of each Division under the institute.
• Note: This is correct. This was discussed at the PD group meeting Wednesday.
