NPC Programming Workshop Summary

Session Summary

Overall we received what we requested and, in some cases, we got more than we asked for! Also there were some minor changes due to negations with other divisions - we benefit greatly from our collaborations and I hope these minor changes are not a big issue.

Session #4: Group 11 operates a little differently. The have this session every year and this is the title they use. Also, the session is always Wednesday afternoon and there are typically 6 papers in this session. They publish proceedings and therefore their timeline is more aggressive; the call for papers has been posted and PTP are due by 6/1/01. They are interested in working with us - although the is little room for negations on the comments above. If we are still interested in working with them, we need to find a vice chair ASAP. Ron - Please let me know if you are still interested in collaborating with group 11 for this session.

Session #6. Group 15 does not have ANY programming in the spring - and therefore they will not co-sponsor this session. Ron - Please let me know if you are still interested in having this session.

NOTES:
Session 1: Group 11 does not provide programming at the Fall meeting. They are willing to collaborate with us on this session, provide a vice-chair and help find papers.

Session 4: Peter and Phil changed the title. Since they are the Group 21 founding fathers - I hope the name change is OK.

Session 7: We had requested to collaborate with Area 10A and I thought they said no at the Annual meeting - but they had it on their list at the NPC meeting.

Session 8: Group 15 thought we were co-sponsoring a session in F2002 instead of S2002. We thought that we would like to have a collaborative session - and the title will be left open for now

Total Division 12 session allocation is 4.5 and this is OK with the MPC.

11/16-21/02Annual AIChE Conference (San Francisco, CA)

Other NPC Topics

2008 is the AIChE Centennial year; the society was formed in Philadelphia and AIChE is looking at options for going to this city in 2008. The problem is that hotel rooms are very expensive and most hotels are associated with the conference center (i.e. if you don't use the conference center, you can't use the hotels for your conference). One alternative is to have the Spring meeting 7/2-6/08; most people seemed to think that this was a different option.

ACHEMAAMERICA is 3/18-21/02 in Mexico City, Mexico. This is the first DACHEMA meeting in the Americas. The MPC felt that it would be good to support this meeting and is looking at providing some (~15-18) sessions. ACHEMA would provide/coordinate the vender show. One possible session (ACHEMA suggestion) is Multipurpose Batch Processing and this session is on the tentative list. The AIChE support details have not been worked out and it seems likely that Area 12 would supply a chair or two and would supply some of the papers in the session.
